Fashionably late [Feb. 27th, 2005|03:37 pm]

Fashionably late, as always. Gloss, you know I love to make an entrance. But I did eat sushi in your honor. No wasabi, though.

I had made all sorts of plans when Kit announced her desire to have a Gloss day. I was going to make crappy graphics, and write sucky fic after sucky fic, all for my Gloss girl, who I adore so very scarily much.

But, uh, I didn't. Well, I tried to write a fic, then read a few of Gloss' fics and went, "ACK! GOD! NO!"

::cough::

I'll never admit this in public again after this, but Gloss is by far my favorite fanfiction writer. She's smart, and funny, and so witty it makes my head hurt. She's a sweet lady with a big heart and a ginormous squishy frontal lobe, and I'm very very lucky to have gotten to know her, and for her to tolerate me like she does.

Happy (belated) Gloss day from your personal stalker, love. You rock my kasbah every day.

The fact that I am a day late does not reflect on the admiration I have for you, Gloss.

Nor does the fact that I come empty-handed. No fic. No fancy art work. No video.

Just me and my profound respect and admiration for your talent.

How lucky are we to have you in fandom? That you share your gift of words and love of these characters?

Plus everyone should be jealous of me as I had the pleasure of your company in RL and although our time was short it confirmed everthing I already knew.

glossing is beautiful, smart, passionate, kind, funny, talented, open-minded and doesn't sneer at me because I ship B/A. (Sometimes she even relents and writes me B/A. *swoons*)

What's not to love?

Happy Gloss Day!

Thank you glossing for being part of fandom. I've been lucky enough to be along for the ride from the very beginning and you're not only kind, witty, talented and fabulous, you're also responsible for some of the best Oz fic ever written. And some of that fic was written especially for me, which makes me at least quadruply lucky.

And so, this is my own inadequate tribute to you. It's a fic I've been trying to write for several months now, and this is about the fourth incarnation. Alas, as I am rubbish I haven't quite managed to get it finished in time for Gloss Day, but as it's 4.30am here I really have to go to bed. However I would hope to have the conclusion completed tomorrow.

Title: Rise (1/2)
Author: dolores
Summary: Travel broadens the mind.
Rating: This part PG-13, will be NC-17 overall.
Disclaimer: Joss owns them.
Notes: This is something of an AU, set in the summer after s3. Also, I only touch on the subject in this part but nevertheless, I feel I must remind you kids that drugs are wrong. Listen to your Auntie Nancy and just say no!

Not for the first time that week, Xander was wondering just what he was doing in London.Collapse )

Hey, Gloss. :)

Well, happy Glossday and all - you've already seen my fic for you, but I just wanted to put a message here as well.

Thanks for always being honest, and not being afraid to speak your mind about fandom. I'm really glad that you're not as pairing one eyed as, er, some of us (*guilty look!*) and that we've been friends. You're really neat to know, and you said a lot of things that meant a lot to me recently. :)

Keep being you, keep blowing us away with your utterly amazing talent, and we'll all keep being your friends. Good deal? :D

Oh, happy Gloss Day!

There is fic coming, and hopefully soon, but until then, I want to tell you before the official day ends just how much I enjoy your writing and your you! Our you? Yes, I like that, Our You. *twirls you around*

I told you once that I think you have an amazing way with words, that you take ordinary words and twist them about and make them yours until they come out the other side saying something different from what anyone else could ever make them say. It's incredible, and I always look forward to that one (at least one) perfect phrase in your every piece of fic.

And then there's you, and I don't know if I have the words to describe that. *grins* You're supportive, funny, and have a certain inquisitive gentle way about you that makes me want to spend hours talking to you.

Happy, happy day!

Have been trying all day to come up with an adequate set of words, for words are what I usually have enough of to share, to give to Glossing.

She's given me so many words, freely and gracefully, in fics which are not merely transgressive, but transcendant. When she writes, she creates worlds which are substantial, full of detail and circumstance and change, and she doesn't make me "buy" them, she shows me how to understand them. And in doing so, she gives me keys to understanding the human sea in which we swim.

She gives me amusement, which is all I ever expect from a piece of casual writing, but beyond that, she gives me new ways to think about the inner and outer life.

One day isn't really enough.

Julia, constantly humbled by the great talent that is Gloss
